Sell Out

I had a moment in Target today, and I immediately started writing this post in my head.  I didn't walk into Target planning to do this, but I did something I didn't think I was ever going to.

I bought Maggie a Princess bathing suit.  With a tutu.

I feel like a fraud.  Like a sell out.  It is one thing to let her play with the princess puzzles, and use the coloring books, and all of her favorite princess underwear.  But this is making a statement.  In public.  Damn Disney and their marketing of all things girly and frufru.

This actually started with the somewhat more innocent act of buying Ben the Lightning McQueen rash guard, and then tonight getting the swim trunks to go with it.  I was looking for a bathing suit for Maggie too, and saw the cutest little green striped one.  Unfortunately, they didn't have her size.  I looked around the corner and found the bright pink bathing suit with Princesses stamped across the front.

The thing is, she will love it.  She will want to wear it all the time.  She loves her princesses.  The underpants don't bother me, the socks are fine, but something about this suit. . .

Their birthday party is a week away.  Maybe I'll return it.  Or maybe I'll embrace it.  Because as annoying as I find the whole Princess idea on a daily basis, I have to say that making her that happy really has some appeal.  Maybe she won't like it.  Maybe someone else had the same idea and I can return ours.

Maybe Mia will be into trucks.
